Jemez Falls: A Waterfall in the New Mexico Desert

Whether you’re a tourist or a resident of New Mexico, you may be surprised to find that there is an amazing waterfall hidden in the Jemez Mountains.

Along the East Fork Jemez River, is a narrow waterfall that crashes down on the rocks from a 70 foot drop.

Jemez Falls is a must see when visiting nearby attractions; Soda Dam, Battleship Rock and Spence Hot Springs in Jemez Springs.

Visitors are able to view the waterfall at both the peak of Jemez Falls Overlook and the base.

At an elevation of 7,880 feet above sea level, the average weather in the summer is a cool high 70°s to low-to-mid 80°s during the day and drops to the low-to-mid 50°s at night.

Camping at Jemez Falls

Jemez Falls is one of the few destinations where you can camp overnight. Bring your RV or trailer because there are over 50 campground sites to accommodate your vehicle.

While there are no RV hookups, there are water spigots available. There’s no need to pack your shovel because restrooms are at the camp site. The Jemez Falls campground also has a host on duty during the summer months.

Overnight camping is $10 per night. Reserve a camping spot in advance and pay online.

Hiking and Fishing

Jemez Falls is a great place to hike along the East Fork Trail or to toss your line in the East Fork Jemez River to hook a few Brown Trout.

Where is Jemez Falls?

Jemez Falls is located in Jemez Springs off State Highway 4, just seven miles north of the Spence Hot Springs. From Highway 550 & Highway 4, head north on Highway Highway 4. Stay on Highway 4 for about 34 miles until you arrive.
